"He's a man of faith"

I was watching The Celebrity Apprentice the other night and there was a discussion in the boardroom about whether Stephen Baldwin was trustworthy or not. The comment was then made that he (Stephen Baldwin) was a "man of faith" and this seemed to settle the debate that he was in fact trustworthy.
What the fuck? How does "faith" translate into trust? Personally I'm a little weary of anyone who claims to have "faith" in something that defies common sense.
